Many customers shared with me that they seldom wear necktie for work these days as this is no longer a trend or requirement at the work place. A necktie is often needed for important meetings or special occasions only such as conferences, presentations or company award ceremonies. Given the rare use of a necktie, it makes even more sense to choose your necktie carefully as you would like to acquire the most versatile one for multiple occasions or one that will match most of the outfit in your closet.
Let’s say hypothetically you can only select one necktie for your wardrobe, what would be your choice? I will pick a plain colour grenadine silk tie without any hesitation, and most likely in navy colour.
What is a Grenadine tie?
For those who are not too familiar with menswear terms, a Grenadine tie is a textured, woven silk tie that looks a little like a knitted tie but with more elegance. They are usually made in Italy, places such as Como. A grenadine weave is an open weave, the construction of the tie is self-tipped (without lining) and most commonly comes in three or five folds. Grenadine tie also comes in two different fineness, Garza Grossa (looser weave) and Garza Fina (smaller weave), the Garza Grossa type is the one that is often mistakenly mixed up with a knitted tie.
Now that we know what it looks like, what is the reason behind my choice as the only tie in my wardrobe?
I think a Navy Garza Grossa Grenadine tie has a texture that resembles a knitted tie which makes it extremely versatile for styling. A plain colour tie is always much easier for matching your shirt and jacket as you worry less about the pattern and an extra colour to go with other items. If it is a plain silk tie, sometimes it may look too formal and boring, but with a bit of texture, it lightens up the outfit immediately. And the choice of Navy is the same reason for choosing a Navy suit as this colour works wonder when it comes to blending with other colours.
We are now carrying different colours of Garza Gross Grenadine tie at Brown’s Tailor. They are all hand made in Italy, with untipped and 3 fold construction. And they are only selling for $750!
